An Apparel Designer From Iowa?
I know of a few awesome fashion designers living here in Des Moines, but am I the last person in the free world to have heard of Todd Snyder directly? Originally from Huxley, he started Tailgate Clothing with Nevada, IA-native Steve King, a company I'm totally aware of, but I never knew who was behind the company or that one of the founders has his own signature line, as well.
This year's new collection - which you can see more of by heading over to A Continuous Lean's blog - is definitely retro prep. Would work well here in the Midwest, but it's not clothing you wouldn't see out East, either. It's very smart and I'd for sure wear it if I was a guy.
On a side note, I recall being a little shocked about anyone graduating fr ISU's Apparel Design program making it in the big city, but only bcause back in the 1800's when I studied apparel design at Iowa State, it was pretty bleak. Old building, old knee-operated machines, super old attitudes. Semesters of puffy shouldered tops with darts. I folded under the pressure + switched to journalism. Which was taught in an even older building, with Royal typewriters and some seriously old ideas.
